Liquid feeding pig five attention

1, fermentation

Although fermentation control is very beneficial, conversely, if the fermentation is not controllable, it has an adverse effect on animal health. This is where the liquid feeding system is most questioned. Uncontrolled fermentation processes often result in increased E. coli, Salmonella, yeast, and many other possible pathogens. Therefore, it is generally recommended in the industry to acidify to pH 4 with lactic acid (or other acidifying agent) and treat with 300 ppm of chlorine dioxide. It should be noted here that each agitation and delivery system has a specific procedure for cleaning and disinfecting, and these cleaning and disinfection guidelines must be strictly adhered to in order to ensure the proper level of hygiene required by the system.

2, dry matter

Another key issue for liquid feeding is the concentration of dry matter in the wet material. As a rule of thumb, 3 parts of water should be used per 1 part of dry feed, or the dry matter concentration should be 25%. Many older conveyor systems do not deliver denser blends, and less dense wetted materials are less desirable because they generate too much wastewater. Studies have shown that although piglets from the first week after weaning are strongly recommended to use wet materials with a dry matter concentration of 25% to ensure adequate nutrient uptake. However, even with a dry matter concentration of 15%, pigs can use wet materials efficiently without any loss of performance.

3, generate more wastewater

Experience has shown that pigs fed with liquids produce more sewage - especially when fed liquid by-products rich in protein and/or salt. The waste water produced can have advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that more wastewater makes the concentration of slurry lower, which makes it easier to handle, and the disadvantage is that it takes more processing costs.

4, water configuration

Even though the liquid feed contains no liquid by-products and normal sodium content, the authorities also recommend that pigs be provided with free fresh non-saline water. The water requirements of pigs vary with individual pigs’ weight, growth rate, temperature and health. Although, each pig stall has at least two drinking fountains, it can effectively prevent the drinking fountains from being duce. However, in a liquid feeding system, it is sufficient to use a separate waterer for every 10-20 pigs.

5, antifeedant

There are few reports that during the first few days of using this feeding system, even if there is no problem with the feed, pigs (especially weaned piglets) that were not familiar with liquid feed before may still have antifeedant. Once the anti-feeding phenomenon has appeared, it is usually possible to add some dry feed at the end of the feeder close to the chute, adding it continuously for several days until the pig is willing to eat liquid food. For older pigs, a small amount of dry feed can be added to the chute, which often allows the pig to know the feed's export. If pigs refuse to feed, the problem may lie in the feed itself and the feeding system.
