Rational application of suitable nitrogen fertilizers according to the law of ginger's fat absorption can greatly increase the yield and improve the quality, increase the content of commercial ginger starch, protein and volatile oil, and decrease the content of soluble sugar and cellulose. Among the four nitrogen fertilizers including ammonium bicarbonate, sodium nitrate, urea and ammonium nitrate, sodium nitrate had the best growth-promoting effect on ginger during seedling stage. By the middle and later stages, the application of ammonium bicarbonate is best for increasing ginger yield and increasing volatile oil, starch and protein content.
In order to obtain high yield and quality of ginger, we must pay attention to the application of nitrogen fertilizer on the basis of the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. Generally, 30 kg to 40 kg of nitrogen fertilizer is applied per acre, and ammonium bicarbonate or ammonium nitrate should be preferred for nitrogen fertilizers. In order to promote the early growth of ginger seedlings, sodium nitrate (approx. 20% of total fertilization amount) may be applied in the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer as base fertilizer.
