Enjoy the blue miracle on the Elbe in the Serena exhibition

The century-old bridge that stands on the River Elbe, known as the Blaues Wunder, is an indispensable historical landmark in Dresden.

Built on September 1, 1891, completed on July 15, 1893, the "Blue Miracle" of the Iron Bridge, 280 meters long, 12 meters wide, 24 meters high and weighing 3,500 tons, is on the Elbe Fifth Bridge. Undoubtedly, it is a milestone in the history of German architecture. It is also the only old bridge in Germany that has not been affected by man-made accidents and man-made disasters and has remained intact without any alteration and reconstruction. It is called a "blue miracle" and is truly worthy of the name.

At the end of the 19th century, the villas in Blasewitz, to the left of the Elbe, stood to the left. The wealthy people there hope to cross the river without a detour and go to the Roschwitz business district on the opposite bank to submit an application to the community for funds to build a bridge, which can not be funded yet. Nearly a decade later, and finally approved by the business needs of the project.

Architect Claus Koepcke (1831-1911) was inspired by the architectural style of the wooden frame, inspired by the three-hinge structure for the bridge design. The most amazing is that he does not set up piers, instead of using the principle of wood skeleton, casting has four support points of the three-hinge structure. Architect Klaus Kopf has created a century-long miracle in the history of bridge construction, but also an irreplaceable cultural landmark in Dresden.

In 1945, the Nazis in Germany, who were in a hurry to retreat, decided to blow up the bridge, and local residents volunteered to protect the bridge from being destroyed.
